Course Duration: This course is designed to be completed in 52 weeks (including holidays).
Expected Study Hours: Typical learners are expected to spend up to 1,226 hours.

What will you learn?
This course is designed to develop your expertise in early childhood education. Among others, you will learn to:
- Support children’s health, safety and wellbeing
- Develop positive and respectful relationships with children
- Meet legal and ethical obligations in children’s education and care
How is the course structured?
All learners will be assessed through:
- Observation during on-the-job or role play/simulation
- Questioning may include self-assessment, verbal answers, written questionnaires, activity modules or interview
- Third party
- Portfolio may include documents, products with supporting documentation, historical evidence
- Structured Activities may include Projects, Case studies, presentations, role play, demonstration, progressive tasks
What are the entry requirements?
Students must be:
- must be 18 years or older
- Have sound language, literacy, and numeracy skills* (at least Year 10 English, or equivalent)
- Have basic computer skill
- Have a current and valid Blue Card, Working with Children Check (WWCC) or Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration recognised in the state/territory of your vocational placement provider, or be eligible to obtain this requirement
- Must hold a current Student Visa
- (From non-English speaking background) are required to provide any one of the following evidence of upper intermediate proficiency in English:
- IELTS total band score of at least 6.0 with no band less than 5.5, or equivalent.
- Occupational English Test (OET), TOEFL Ibt, Pearson Test of English, Cambridge English Advanced with scores equivalent to IELTS 6.0 and no less than 5.5 in each band.
- The English test must have been taken within two years before the application is made.
*Learners who do not meet the LLN requirements may still enrol into the course provided the enrolment has been endorsed by the trainer and corresponding additional support strategies have been put in place.

Early Education Institute to provide Vocational Placement for learners, including access to:
- Vocational workplace supervisor(s) to supervise and confirm completion of the required tasks included in the Skills Workbook. The workplace supervisor must:

- Have adequate knowledge and understanding of early childhood education and care
- Have the necessary experience and qualification(s) in the area of early childhood education and care (e.g. you have the relevant VET qualification/s, Certificate III in Early Education and Care or higher)

- an indoor environment
- an outdoor environment
- eating areas equipped with tables, chairs, utensils
- food preparation area
- drinking water
- handwashing facilities
- personal protective equipment
- indoor and outdoor play areas
- sleeping and rest areas equipped with beds and linen
- sun protection materials
- toilet facilities
- toys and other play equipment
- information technology for research, record keeping and documentation
- bathroom equipped with age-adjusted toileting equipment
- equipment for eating, nappy changing, play and sleeping
- Children and educators in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia:
- Children between the ages of birth and six years
- Babies and toddlers under the age of 23 months
- Educators and supervisors for collaboration (must be an approved early childhood educator)
To complete your course, you will need ongoing access to the following:

Mandatory Vocational Placement:
Learners are required to undertake a minimum of 160 hours of vocational placement within a registered and approved early education and care centre. This must occur after the student has satisfactorily completed all the other units/subjects in this qualification.
During this time, the learners are required to complete the work placement booklet and work log hours.
Learners have the option to:
- Source their own Vocational Placement providers (Early Education Institute to check suitability) or
- Have Early Education Institute assist them in arranging Vocational Placement providers near their area or
- Do their vocational placement through Early Education Institute’s network
- Aspire Early Education
Early Education Institute will continuously look for and form partnerships with Early Education and Care providers in Victoria and other states in the future.
Early Education Institute will provide learners a Vocational Placement Pack that outlines all the requirements for finding a suitable Vocational Placement provider that will facilitate the required workplace assessments and allow the learner to complete the required vocational placement hours.
Learners are recommended to initiate contact with potential vocational placement providers as soon as enrolment is confirmed to allow sufficient time for Early Education Institute to confirm the workplace’s safety and suitability.
Provide first aid (HLTAID012):
Learners are required to complete the First aid unit (HLTAID012) prior to commencing vocational placement. In this course, HLTAID012 is Subject 11.

Is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) available?
Early Education Institute has a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy, to ensure that an individual’s prior learning, achieved through formal and informal training, work experience or other life experiences, is appropriately recognised. This recognition may assist Learners to progress faster through a unit of competency, or allow the student full credit.
